Richard Hajj - Jeweller
How long have you been a member of the coop?
I became a member of the coop in spring 2007, so next spring, it will be 14 years.
How would you describe your work?
I make necklaces, earrings and rings. I work with abstract forms, I like to integrate chromatic contrasts by using different materials.
All the necklaces I make are reversible. This is a design constraint that I imposed to myself at the beginning. Today I cannot imagine making a necklace that can't be worn on both sides.
I create my jewellery in Hochelaga neighborhood in Montreal.
As a craftsman, what do you get out of being part of the cooperative?
Like hundreds of artisans for almost 50 years, l'Empreinte helps me to live from my art. Also, teamwork in the shop or on various projects is for me a form of enriching socialization that helps me not stay too long in my workshop.
Do you have a memory or milestone related to the cooperative that you would like to share with us on this page?
We moved the store about 6 years ago and it was an amazingly complex task that l'Empreinte was able to accomplish in just a few months. I think one of the strengths of the coop is in its structure that has been inherited from the members who came before us.
