Sylvie Laframboise, fine wood worker
I have been a member of The Footprint since 2016.
What I love about woodworking is the almost infinite possibilities. I try to create mini-series of utilitarian objects with unique and sensual designs. Wood can be worked with different techniques such as shaping, carving, turning, bending, marquetry, etc. I like to work with wood in a variety of ways. It can be left natural, stained, painted, varnished... which leaves a lot of room for creativity. I also love the different types of wood, their respective smells and their specific textures. I like to leave natural details such as bark, knots and special patterns in my rooms. Wood is an extremely sensual and inspiring material for me. I am always inventing new products.
As a craftswoman, what do you get out of being part of
L'Empreinte coopérative?
L'Empreinte is a great family of artisans. It's a place to exchange and meet other craftspeople working in all the arts and crafts. It's also an opportunity to invest in a community of artisans that has existed for over 45 years and to ensure its continuity. Our boutique, located in Old Montreal, is an exceptional distribution centre that allows us to reach an international clientele.
Do you have a memory or a significant moment related to
L'Empreinte coopérative that you would like to share with us?
It was the day I received the call that I was chosen as a member. I was so happy! I have to say that the first day I put my pieces in the store was quite memorable too, I was very proud of my space.
