Alain Laferrière
Settled in Sherbrooke since 2021, Alain first lived in Montérégie on the banks of the Richelieu River. He has always been a creative artist, a draftsman, painter and sculptor. He studied art at the Cégep de St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, then interior design.
He worked as a designer for nearly 18 years, in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu and then with his office in Gaspésie, where he specialized in built heritage. He has always been sensitive to the environment. For years, he planted hundreds of trees every year!
For the past 12 years, withAtelier Saint-Cerf, which he founded with his wife, he has pursued his environmental mission by sharing his passion for wood and the preservation of the natural environment.
"My values are closely linked to my work. Through sculpture, I seek simplicity of line, respect for nature and the environment.
I seek to create objects that will evoke emotions, memories and nostalgia. [I use] mainly recycled and/or locally sourced wood (new cuttings from local cabinetmakers, among others), recycled and/or recyclable packaging, ecological and natural finishes, such as our linseed oil and mineral pigment-based finish.
"Atelier Saint-Cerf is more than just a business; it's a life project, a creative outlet, a passion chest, an educational tool! "

"Ever since my studies, I've enjoyed working in collaboration with other artists. For me, helping others to realize their potential is just as rewarding as making my own work. I love working in the public, doing markets or being in the public for an exhibition, it's the balance needed for a craftsman who spends most of his time in the studio.
[Being a member of l'Empreinte means] having another opportunity to surround myself with artists and craftspeople is the way for me to grow and make inspiring connections."
